Darjeeling Zoo

Darjeeling Zoo is an internationally recognized conservation center for Red Panda, Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolf and etc.The Zoo was re-named after Late Smt. Padmaja Naidu, ex-governor of West Bengal on recommendation of Late Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi. The zoo was established on 14th August, 1958 in Darjeeling of West Bengal.

The zoo is located at Jawahar Parbat on Lebong Cart Road.The zoo is the home of various types of mammals including Bengal Tiger, different types of leopard which includes Snow leopard, Black leopard, Clouded leopard, Common leopard, Leopard cat, Tibetan wolf, Asiatic Black bear, Red Panda, Goral, Blue sheep, Yak, different types of deer which are Sambhar, Musk, Barking, Himalayan Tahr, Palm Civet, Himalayan Palm Civet, Jackel, Slow Loris. Birds includes Kalij, golden, Silver, Grey Peacok, Himalayan Monal, Ring necked, Reeve's Phesant,Lady Amherst, Red Jungle Fowl, Alexendrine Parakeet, Rose Ringed Parakeet, Hill Myna, Green Pheasant, Cheer Pheasant, Grey Turaco, African Grey Parrot, Blue Gold Macaw. Also has Star tortoise, Himalayan Newt.

The zoo has started adoption program for the general public. The Zoo remain closed on Thursday and open rest of the days of week from 8:30am to 4:30pm during summer and 4:00pm in winter. Entry cost for Indian and SARRC visitors Rs.20 and Rs.50 for foreigners, camera cost Rs.10 only.March to June and September to January is the best time to visit.
