Advertising in Travel Guides, exploring new opportunities

A travel guide has an important role in the tour planning process of a travel. I have seen people visiting book stores and surfing travel guides. In some shops book sellers allotted a complete rack for travel guides and etc. We have seen that the travel guide publishing industry had experienced a booming growth in recent years.
With developments of Smartphone technologies travel guides market has started to shrink. It does not mean that modern travelers are not using travel guides for their tour planning. Research indicates that researching using travel guides, tour plans has been increased by 2-5%, but the traveler community are relying on free guides available with smartphone applications.
The fact is different travel portals, destination marketing agencies, trip adviser sites are distributing free travel guides to travelers. You will find people next door earlier has used printed travel guides now they are using free guides instead.

The following are the percentages of travelers indicating they were "very/extremely" confident in various media sources for destination and travel supplier decisions. Note that Facebook/Twitter (19%) and YouTube (14%) scored lowest among the various categories:
- Family/friend recommendations (81%)
- Travel guidebooks (57%)
- Online travel agents (54%)
- Online advisory sites (53%)
- Company/destination sites (46%)
- Travel agents (46%)
- Media coverage (43%)
- Brochures (39%)
- Blogs (33%)
- Travel advertising (27%)
- Facebook/Twitter (19%)
- YouTube (14%)

If you search using popular search engines, you will find that millions of free copies has been downloaded for different destinations.
As we have seen 57% percent travelers rely on travel guides and etc for travel planning. If the number of total international travelers are 1 billion, then approximately 570 million travelers are relying on travel guides, tour plans.
Form the above chart we have also find 27% is influenced by travel advertising. which means 270 million travelers use advertising for travel planning or purchasing.
If we consider travel guide a platform for travel advertising then around 154 million travelers are influenced by advertisements in travel guides.

Advertising in search engines and travel sites have recurring cost to be paid daily, weekly, monthly intervals where as in travel guides one time advertising expenditure and long term return. Advertising with free digital guide is a long-lasting, low-cost way to introduce your company to a targeted market and produces a regular source of inquiries.
